Just testing. Anyone with the least smattering of geology knows that what we see here is a raised wave cut platform. At the end of the last ice age, with the melting of the Skye glacier, the removal of the weight of the ice caused the land to slowly rise, producing classic raised beaches around the coast.
Only a geologist or a surfer would know that. As for place names...the snap was taken from the road to Dunvegan just above Gesto on the west coast of Skye. Loch Harport is in the middle ground with Ardteck Point and its light house (really its there, just squint--must get a longer lens) on the left, Isles of Oronsay and Wiay in the centre (one in front of the other) and Bracadale Point to the right. I believe the stacks in the distance are MacLeod's Maidens with the Hebridian Sea beyond. In the distance on the right is Skye again.
That is an unusual geological formation. Any explanations? Does it have a name?
ReplyDeleteI believe it's called Cliff.
